Hewlett Packard outlines computer memory of the future

http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/technology/8609885.stm

The fundamental building blocks of all computing devices could be about to undergo a dramatic change that would allow faster, more efficient machines.

“Researchers at computer firm Hewlett Packard (HP) have shown off working devices built using memristors – often described as electronics’ missing link.”

“That means they could begin to replace transistors – the tiny switches used to build today’s chips.”

“And, crucially, the unique properties of memristors would allow future chips to both store and process data in the same device.”

“In the near future we can use memristors to make real brain-like computers, he told BBC News.”

Tiny cube to tackle space debris

Here’s an interesting invention, a space rubbish cleaning cube..

“UK researchers have developed a device to drag space debris out of orbit.”

“It would help make space a sustainable business. We want to be able to keep on launching satellites to provide new services; but unless we do something, the amount of junk up there is going to grow exponentially.”

“Using large deployable surfaces to increase the drag on these objects so they fall to Earth rapidly is one possible solution to the space litter problem.

CubeSail, unveiled on Friday, is a 3kg (6.6lb), 10cm x 10cm x 30cm (4in x 4in x 12in) nanosatellite.”
